Why are people nowadays writing LOOSE when they surely mean LOSE ?

They are different words with different meanings. Aren't they ? Or maybe my education has been in vain, a loosed opportunity.

I think text messaging has a lot to answer for here - speed is the most important part of getting the message across. Either that or the youth of today have completely loosed the plot!

I'm sure that a lot-or as many would have it, "alot"- of folk pronounce the words in a similar way. If they pronounced "lose" the way that I do, so that it rhymes wi "hose," they would not be confused...
