Hi, my son was given a list of French words to copy and the headings were Les Mots (The words), Premier Soir, Deuxieme Soir, Troisieme soir and Essai Final (Final practice / test). Why use soir as it means evening? What other meaning does it have that makes sense? Look forward to answers!

Is your son doing an evening class, or might the list of words have been designed for use in evening classes?
I would suggest that they are words that he will need to know / understand to participate fully on the 1st evening, 2nd evening, 3rd evening and at the final practice.
The school seem to have split up the homework to make a manageable amount for each evening.

thx for the replies - I think there must be no alternative meaning and it is just meant to be split up over the different evenings.
