Do you mean the expression 'don't tell a soul'? In this saying, the word soul is referring to a person, so it simply means 'don't tell anybody'. However the use of 'soul' to mean 'a person' or 'anybody' is usually quite antiquated so there aren't many situations where you could use it, apart from in this saying, which is still quite usual.
