The great sociologist Marshall McLuhan, who wrote the book "The Medium is the Massage" [yes that is Massage] about the pervasive influence of the media coined the term the "Global Village". in 1967. It was a radical concept way back then; but now in the light of multinational businesses, environmental threats to the planet, and the internet, it seems a very obvious phrase.
