Sorry but I've forgotten how to answer a long question like Quizmonsters when there is little space to type your answer. gilf, if you are watching then please don't leave. sft is well known on AB and is a total wind-up merchant but also provides many good answers to questions. As for sft being a racist, I'm not sure and don't care. I suppose I could make constant derogatory references to Scots (numpties, thickos, etc) but that would be untrue and also unfair to the vast majority of friends and colleagues I have gained whilst being up here (in Scotland) for 30+ years.

i'll back everything gef's just said.you have to know that sft is laughing when he makes these comments, i dont have a grudge against the scots unless im talking to him about sport and then we'll both give as good as we get, (i think i caught you in the crossfire of one of those discussions), so please dont assume we're all racist bigots, even tho we are guilty of being a bit over familiar with each other, stick around and see what happens, it's not like we're going to win the world cup very often. :-D

Gef, I was in exactly the same boat as you were...ie I couldn't even offer a response within my own question! There was no way to get far enough down to reach the 'Submit' button. (Voluble fool that I am!)

I still don't know how to tackle this, as I got my vastly more computer-savvy partner-lady to do it for me. Then, when I tried it myself, I still couldn't hack it.

I am, therefore, hoping that one of the more knowledgeable ABers explains in words of one syllable - for a Scottish computer-numpty such as myself - how it's done.

Dear old Sft keeps galloping off on his high horse, Gilf, so don't let it bother you. As for me, he's even excommunicated me! You, at least, are still within the body o' the kirk.

what you does is-type your answer as normal. when finished, click the frame (grey bit) surrounding the text. then hit return. voila. postykins.

Thank you, I. I tried your instructions on my original posting below and they work perfectly! I'm such a computing-dumbo myself, I'm always impressed when someone knows how to "do stuff" - as Lisa of 'The Simpsons' says - with the darned things. Cheers

Or you use the TAB button which will move you through the different selections within the pop up window for your answer...I know it's awkward...must have been designed by a sassenach eh? :>) Numpties.....it must be rubbing of on you Gef!

Three stars for all of the answers so far. By the way I once confiscated a pack of sweeties from a pupil and they were called "Numpties" - anyone else ever seen them?

Treacle, To get italic, put a left-arrow (that's one of these <) followed by the letter i (for italic) followed by a right arrow (that's one of these >). Then put the word/phrase to be italicised (let's say that's your own name) then put another left arrow followed by a slash (that's one of these /) followed by another letter i followed by another right arrow. And voil�...when you enter this, you should have an italicised version of your name!

For bold print, just substitute two letters b for the two letters i and for underlining, just substitute two letters u for the two letters i.
