This rhyme has been around a while... in a various forms, even, as happens a lot with oral traditions.

The version I learned goes like this:

One's a Kiss
Two's a letter
Three's a wish for something better

Sometimes, I have heard that people take the "...for something better" and turn it into "Four's something better" but it doesn't scan as well.
