I hope that I don't sound old fashioned but when did this word go out of fashion. It seems to have been replaced by sex.

I agree. Particularly there seems to me to be a big difference between gender harassment ("there there little girl etc etc) and sexual harassment (phwoarrr etcet), likewise gender discrimination. Another example of dunbing down I fear.
