you know, meaning, please, thanks. i'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but i'm on a roll reading this bunch of proverbs, and some leave me stumped. thank you much.

The statement is simple enough.'If you marry in the month of May you will regret it forever'. Let's see. May is Spring. It is 'the merry, merry month of May when birds do sing' and so on; in other words it's when men and girls go courting. So it means, I suppose the same as 'Marry in haste;repent at leisure'. That is if you marry in Spring , in May, then you can only have done so on brief experience; a whirlwind romance, which is likely to soon prove unhappy in time.
