I hate to be pedantic (I love it really) but that isn't an acronym. It's an abbreviation. An acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of a multi-word name, such as radar or ASH - Action on Smoking and Health.
(cos i'm in the pedantic club too thewillow) how can you be sure it's an abbr. and not an acronym? It could be "to die horribly" "taking donuts happily"......
agree with thewillow, Darth; an acronym is an abbreviation that makes a word, not just a string of letters; A.S.H. is an acronym because it makes the word ash, tdh is not a word so its an abbr. And to add to the confusion, R.A.D.A.R. and S.C.U.B.A are acromorphs [my word] in that they began as abbrs. that were just a string of letters but became acronyms due to popular usage. :-)
