Why was the original name for the meal after a wedding called a breakfast? Is it to do with having to get married before setting off for work on the very same day?

Traditionally the bride and groom would fast on the day of their wedding, so this meal at whatever time of day 'breaks' the fast.

Nowadays, it is the first meal of the married couple's life together, in the same way as breakfast is the first meal of the day.
