If I said you were a lazy so-and-so and you telt me that was like the pot calling the kettle black, that means you think I'm also a lazy so-and-so.

It comes from the times when kettles and pots were heated over an open fire and became sooty or black from the smoke and flames. It's someone accusing another of something they are both guilty of.
the entire quote is : thats like The pot calling the kettle black. The pot and thte kettle both hanging over an open fire like in a fireplace both being covered with smoke and soot equally one calling the other black.
