The visionary experience of the prophets has always been due to psychoactive substances. (why else would they imagine such ridiculous waffle?) Even back then there were prohibitions on these substances and drug "mules" were employed to move the contraband across borders.

For safety the prophets travelled separately from their mules. The songs are directed at the mules' minders.
