He then sell each square on the grid for a set price (say, $5 per square). The winner is whomever has their name in the square whose numbers correspond with the winning score of that pool's football game (set in advance - the pool is for the Raiders versus the Steelers, or whatever). Usually the winnings are split 50/50 - 50% of the total collected goes to the winner, and the other 50% to the guy who organized the pool.
