The podium is where the president stands. Rostrum is another word for this. The president reads from a lecturn.

Would this lecturn be like a cist-urn for the ashes of his policies, a tea-urn to fall back on to douse them, or just any old urn for him to keep his policy scrolls in until they go into spontaneous combustion?

Or is it just a lectern, with everything in A4 and on teleprompter, having been screened by the health and safety police for combustibility?
