I know this is a Latin term, but what does it mean?

You may wonder why it is not ubi (where), and it is because it is motion towards.

Oddly enough there has been discussion of this phrase recently n the press. A Latinist said it should be ibis and vadis was late or low latin. others wrote in saying no, it was classical. Myself I have always had difficulty iwth archimedes saying Eureka! when grammatically he meant heuron!

whither (to where) and whence (from where) are not now used, but were in common use when the most famous English translation of the Bible came out. (King James bible)
