What the the saying having "Trouble/problems on the road mean"?

Means the same as 'there are leaves on the line'

Thanks Octavius. Actually I thought that it meant something other than to do with transport, I thought it had a completely metaphorical meaning.
If it's used in a sporting context it means that a team has a bad record in away fixtures- i.e. they get bad results when they travel anywhere.
