I know Pravda in Russian meaning ok, right, as a question. but what does it mean here - He considered The New York Times to be Pravda for liberals? Similarly meaning OK for liberals?

Pravda ("The Truth") was the official newspaper of the Communist Party in Russia and therefore always reflected the party line.  I assume he means The New York Times fulfills the same purpose for the liberal faction in New York - ie its editorials are not unbiased reporting but following some liberal party line.
