Can anyone tell me where the above phrase originates from please?

One meaning of straight for some hundreds of years has been true, correct, right. The use of damn with it is just a modern usage which reinforces the meaning. So, damn straight means "You're certainly correct!"
I very much doubt whether you would be able to find the very first use of such a phrase, but good luck to you!

Cassell's dictionary of slang gives it as [US Black] from about 1970s+. I always thought it was from US.

I heard it uttered by a farmhand ~1960 (age 10) in rural New Jersey and I can tell you I was impressed!
