where does the phrase "beer money" come from? does anyone out there know?

Originally - in the days of big country houses, for example - an allowance of a certain quantity of beer was generally offered to the servants employed...in much the same way as sailors used to get a daily rum-ration. In certain households...perhaps those with temperance tendencies...a sum of money was offered instead. This was known as 'beer-money'.

Nowadays, of course, it just means the money a man allows himself to spend having a drink with friends.
