Basically, yes. In classical Greek, 'paideia' means 'education', based on 'paidos' = child/boy. 'Encyclopdia' means 'in+circle+education'..."an all-round education", as it were, and 'pdophile' means 'lover of children'.

Also "pedagogue" meaning a formal overbearing teacher. It refers to a Greek slave who accompanied a child to school. Also "orthopaedic" meaning right child, originally a branch of medicine dedicated to correcting child bone and muscle defects but since expanded to all ages.

Not related to "pedal" a foot operated lever, "pedestrian" a person travelling on foot, "pedant" a person devoted to correcting the fine detail, and "pedestal" a base or supporting anchoring something to the ground; all related to the Latin word for foot, "pes".

Yup all the above is correct

two roots

pais paidos greek child - this is always paed in London English

and

pes pedis latin foot which gives ped in English

In American both give ped (an example of linguistic convergence)

I must say I always though pedantic.....
