cold and fever

during a dinner party we were discussing various sayings and my huusband said fight a cold and feed a fever.
my colleague said feed a cold and starve a fever.
i thought it was starve a cold and feed a fever.

which is right and is there any truth behind it?

There is no truth in either, so it doesn't really matter which one id correct;-)

It is "fight a cold and feed a fever"
There's no agreement on this one. Some people say it one way, some another. However, there seems to be something behind the 'Feed a cold' idea. See...

It's feed a cold and starve a fever, but the idea is that IF you feed a cold, this will starve a fever - ie, stop a fever from developing.
