What does 'sod a dog' mean? Hugh Grant says this in the film Notting Hill :)

In england is it used as a kind of mild swear word (though it is actually a term describing the lumps of turf kicked up during sports)
In this instance Hugh meant - forget the dog...the dog doesn't count, i don't care about the dog etc.
it can be used in place of 'fukc', p*ss, Bu*ger, etc etc as an angry exclamtion, (i'e, sod off) but it does not literally mean the same and its certainly not worse
