Mom, Mum or Mam?
9 Answers
How come all over Britain we have a fairly constant "Dad" but in different regions we have different words to call our Mother? I live in Birmingham and most people including me seem to call theirs Mom. What do all you other ABers call yours?

However my husband is from Birmingham and refers to his mum as his Mom. This makes things easy for us as they both have different names (mum and mom) so we always know who we are talking about.
My Mum however (from North East but posh) refers to her mother as Mam, and often Mammy.
I have a Mom (I'm from Cannock, Mom and Dad are from Walsall) and find it very frustrating that I can't get a card with it on. She has always had mum or mother cards. I moved oop narth 13 years ago and began to wonder if it was just our regional way of pronouncing 'mum' until I attended a funeral in Walsall a few years back and noticed that all of the graves of females said mom, rather than mum.
