i am absolutely racked off at trying to decrypt some of my sons text messages, i know they are to save text space but give us a break. and while i am at it what does "LOL" mean.

Don't get upset as sooner or later you will find these acronyms, smilies etc quite helpful as they are necessary if you use message boards - and deciphering son's text messages! Many a would be argument or words taken the wrong way have be diffused by these little 'drawings'. Have a look at this site for everything to be explained:

I heartily agree with mr. piper. Could we not try to maintain language and grammar standards on AB for at least a little while longer? Acronyms and Smilies to finish with, fine, but please leave 'text' abreviations for phone messaging, where speed and time is more important. ABers are supposed to be intelligent and informed... :-)

Have no fear gastwo, AB'ers are incredibly intelligent people and wouldn't dream of entering text messaging into their posts. I don't think our illustrious Ed would allow it anyway :-D
