what am i? chopped liver?

i said this today, to an ignorant driver, who ignored my letting him pass by.
My 9 year old asked me what it meant, and why we say it.
Why do we say it??

Does it mean, 'are you ignoring me?' As some people might ignore chopped liver if they saw it on a plate?

Beats me, chopped liver/piece of meat ? (for a driver that cut you up maybe).
If it was me, I'd say "there ya go ..alright ...don't then!"

well, i'd pulled in for him - although really, he should have given way to me, but he was yapping on his mobile phone, and really paying no attention to his driving.
As he passed, he ignored me, and put his hand up to the bloke behind me!
So I said, 'you're welcome! What am I? chopped liver?'
