Thanking your answerers.

I am new to this site. Do you thank people who have answered your questions? If so, how?

just add to your own post and say thanks

Many people just add TIA - abbreviation for 'Thanks in advance' - to th end of their original question. If someone has been particularly helpful, or every time if you prefer, do as bednobs suggests above. Best to leave it until you believe ALL the answers are in rather than thanking each individual personally.
Normally wait for a reasonable time for a number of answers to appear, and then add your thanks and any comments at the bottom. I do not like to see my own name there, as it says Question Author, and to me this does not look right. You could always put thanks in advance at the start of your question.
Hope this helps.

A personal 'Thank you' is always good, but I've never been put off answering a question or thought the worse of the questioner because it had 'TIA' attached to it. Granted, it is not as effusive as, 'I shall be eternally in your debt for responding to my query', but it DOES contain an expression of gratitude.
