We are a Lancashire family and my old mother used to refer to someone with fat legs as "Legs like a Mullangolly (spelling probably not right) heifer". Has anyone heard of this expression and knows it origin. Have a vague recollection it had something to do with Ireland. Would be interested to hear any thought on this.
Yes JAMJAR - "beef to the heels like a Mulligar Heifer" is correct - used (often by a woman with very good legs) to describe a woman with large calves and no ankles - a bitchy dig! in the shins.
