Latin - 'clandestinus'.
the Latin word 'clam' meant 'in secret'. It doesn't seem to be related to the shellfish, whose name is Germanic in origin, and 'to clam up', meaning to keep your mouth as tightly closed as a clam shell, comes from that rather than the Latin word.
