Why does the letter Q have to be followed by a U what is the point ? or are there any words that have a Q and no U?

Qatar - as in the airline has no 'q', but it is not an English word, so may not count, although you did not specify that the word has to be English in origin.
The Australian airline Qantas if that counts I guess :-) xx

We could just use the letter KW so we would have Kween, Kwick, Kwango, Ekwator. That looks weird doesn't it - I guess that's why we have QU.

No apologies Bob, sorry, they are all still foreign words, it even says they are from other countries!! I think QWERTY is the nearest so far but even that is cheating as it is only made up from the order of letters on a keyboard!!

they are all considered to be naturalised in english :)
