The run of difficult EV's came to an end with this offering from Salamanca.

One of the quickest grid-fills I can recall, though probably helped by the theme
being one of my favourite works.

Enjoy your day.

Hello K,
It certainly would have helped if I'd known the story-line, once I'd discovered the theme a large percentage of the grid was quicly populated, and then the rest followed. No color dilemma this week!
Sorry, not used to seeing the thread start so early - repeating my superfluous post:

Hola N&Cers, a fine puzzle today, though the grid fill proceeds pretty rapidly once the "common source" of the 10 is discovered. The "HELP IN ALLEGED COD AREA" seemed unnecessary. One major error - the "state capital" referenced in 9d is NOT a state capital!

We got 5 inches of snow yesterday, so I'm off to clean off cars & driveways. I thought it was spring?

For a change I was able to commandeer the paper first thing and do the puzzle over breakfast.
Not too hard, but bundles of thematic material, and I even found myself splendidly sidetracked at the end, when discovering that 11dn and 30dn together were an anagram of the man responsible for the 1947 production, which I assumed must have been a shocker!
Like you Kayakamina a quick fill as this is a brilliant thematic subject and a favourite for me too. First one I saw with my wife. Final step took a bit longer to work out as I wasn't familiar with it.
Hello everyone,
First I'd like to apologise for the typo, lack of K in a word!
I am sure, dr b that devadolly will not consider your post superfluous, it just sets her on a track to find us all. The question is, will she be complete with thematic deerstalker and magnifing glass! Do not see her as a pipe smoker however!
Spring is most definitely sprung here on the South coast of the UK. If there were 5" of the white stuff my dwarf daffodils and tulips would be totally enveloped! Temperatures have been in the region of 20°C all this week! Had to mow the lawns last week, and cut the hedges this weekend! I would agree that the "assistance in the asserted pillow region" is entirely superfluous! As a humble scientist, each week through EV, I learn more of what many consider the finer aspects of the world!
Have completed the grid but have only 9 of the ten. My magnifying glass is clearly not powerful enough!
All complete BUT - 8d - can only be the obvious word however I am at a loss to understand the definition of it.
Question Author
The definition of 8d is 'here in Denmark'.

Hi Zita

Email me if you are still having a problem with No. 10!
Hi All
Got the theme after one clue (helped by an anagram finder I must confess!!!) Grid populated quickly but end play took a little tracking down. An elementary puzzle methinks.
As you all say, once the group of ten have been identified it makes a straight forward fill which was pleasantly untaxing. As we are now proud grandparents of identical twins our brains have turned to mush so a more simple week from our favourite crosswords has been much appreciated and we have, at last, got to the stage where we have no skeletons in our cupboards!
Congratulations Jogler(s)! I bet even now you are able to differentiate between them! (Different sexes, or diffent clothing!)Their parents are going to need a lot of Grandpaternal assistance, which I suspect you will relish! They will certainly need quidance to ensure they take up the Jogler EV mantle!
Good Evening All. not quite the raight salutation but slightly thematic............or is it? The grid was quickly completed sans 8d which is irritatingly elusive. Saw the title and rammed the deer-stalker on, but then......1a & 12a leapt off the page with a fortissimo roar as we had seen a wonderful production of said work in the not too distant past. Am now trying to find the highlights with little success. Are the two very diverse epistles connected?
In case you didn't see my post on last week's K. many thanks for the heavy hints, got there in the end.
Drb...............snow, again.............just how do you cope, altho' what am I saying we got married in the snow on 22nd March, mind you it only lasted a couple of hours and was brilliant sunshine this year.
Joglers, many congratulations, one each when you are sitting on them!
Hello DocHH been great weather here during the past week, lawns definitely need a trim so have persuaded the gardener to come a week early and instructed the staff (Himself and Brother) to make sure the big....no medium (the big mowers need tractors) mower is working
PS Gave up the pipe some years ago!
Hello, DD. The two epistles are indeed connected by title. That is why you will need your deerstalker and magnifying glass. I did not realise that I was looking for two anagrams to find the lady.
Hello Zita-green, lovely to hear from you again, it's ages since you posted and thank you for the reassurance, not sure the brain is in good working order at the moment but will pursue your lead tomorrow.
Hello all - been frantically busy these last couple of weeks - having a conservatory built and it was unexpectedly brought forward, so have been digging, digging, digging, to rescue various plants. Not to mention having to create a new pond to house the goldfish - and then there was catching them!
You get the picture. However this week's offering was just what I needed - something I could do in coffee breaks. Think I've finished, though one small query is winging it's way to K. Agree with dr b, though, that the COD AREA seemed unnecessary. I was disappointed by that particular section of the puzzle
My only gripe with this one is that the preamble highlights some answers that are not in BRB but seems to ignore 8d which I had wrong for ages.
collins has the entries for 11a and 24a but doesn't have 8dn [i assume - because 24a isn't in my ancient copy of the book either] - strangely 11a is in chambers [although not in bold] at a related entry.i quite liked the literary mix and match of the theme here.
You are very kind, DD. I haven't been posting because that run of more difficult puzzles was beyond me! I, too, liked the way the theme linked the two works.
