BARBARISMS

BAR (but for) + BAR (a joke, an amusing incident or story) + an anagram (out) of MISS

Barbarisms are forms of speech offensive to scholarly taste - examples of which (for instance) are "television", a mixture of Greek and Latin roots, and "to boldly go", a famous split infinitive.
