wouldn't bother with a note mcnal, when an answer has two recognised spellings like this they normally except either so long s it doesn't interfere with the rest of the grid. I've gone for Eurus
thanks paddywak, thats what i have too. it just puts a seed of doubt in the mind when there are alternatives !! bibblebub, thanks for your help too :-)
I've gone for Eurus, this problem appears from time to time. The common one is a Greek hero in the Trojan War, A?A? Do you put Ajax (the usual answer) or do you put Aias (my old Classics tutor's preferred spelling). I'm always intrigued as to whether the compilers simply stick to a rigid answer policy or whether they allow a little bit of leeway if the answer doesn't interfere with other clues. Hopefully they go with the latter!
