In the style of Rene, Allo, allo tout le monde,
As I managed to get started in the NE and SW quadrants, 8, 23c fell into place quickly. which meant that the letter to be deleted and combined with the title became obvious early on. Reference to ODQ then justified the grid entries! An element of jig-saw entry, but more acceptable compared to last weeks blank grid!

For once I didn't have to drop much to complete this and at least I had the opportunity to look at and complete it today.
On a lighter note could any EVers suggest answers to these clues to famous British people. ( No answer length indicated. )

Many thanks for that Bellabee. I wouldn't mind but on a clear day I can look out across the Cheshire plain from the higher points of my morning jog and see the place with which he is most closely associated.

Got 8, 23D pretty quickly, so worked out all the twiddly bits. Have completed all bar one clue, 4d, which is still eluding me at present. Have 25a but cannot see/find any intestinal problem, perhaps its an abbreviation.

Yes the intestinal problem is an abbreviation, which is in the BRB! As far as 4d is concerned, a stranger might ask them, "Do you come here often?"

Hello All. Not started , or even looked, am still plodding with last week's but won't go into that! Really came on line to see how drb was managing with all the viscious tornado's that have recently caused so much stress in the States. Have you had any in your area drb?
Will hope to open 965 this evening.

Hi dd, we had tornadoes strike on Good Friday, doing some serious damage to St Louis airport, about 20 min north of us (go to youtube and search "Lambert tornadoes"); a few hundred houses damaged/destroyed but no deaths (somewhat miraculously). Nothing at all like what hit Alabama last week; hundreds dead and cities looking like they 'd been carpet-bombed. You listen for the sirens and head for the basement; not much else you can do.

Hi Doc H H. Thanks for that. I could kick myself. I had all the components but thought the colour part of it would all be at the end. I tried a very strange word, with no luck, of course, but completely missed the fact that I had all the right letters, just assembled wrongly!

The tornados sound terrifying, Dr. B. Glad the ones near you didn't result in any loss of life.

Hi drb, it just looks horrendous, you cope with the most diverse, frightening and awful weather where you are, I feel thankful that the constant soggy downpour and wondering if the fields are ever going to dry out are the usual worries for us. Not that that is appropriate at the moment as we have had a very chilly East wind blowing for quite a few days so everything is dry and the 1st crop silo fields are bending nicely against the breeze...............however, I am pretty sure that as soon as the crop nears its prime growth, about the latter half of May, the fickle wind will veer to the West and produce downpour after downpour causing farmers and contractors to weep and huddle in corners hoping it (the rain) will hurry up and go away!! A small worry when one's life is threatened as in Alabama, our heart goes out to those farmers who have lost far more than a crop.
PS. DocHH What is all this 'allo, 'allo stuff to do with staring to the Heavens??????
