There has been a lot of discussion already about this and DALORES has been suggested. But I have never heard of a girls name of DALORES. Isn't it DELORES or perhaps DELORIS ?

I took one of the definitions in Chambers which is to 'solve' or 'do'.

As far as I can see there is only one way to spell Dolores.

Thanks K. I don't have a Chambers dictionary, just a Oxford Concise. Chambers always seems to have very odd definitions but I suppose we must use it if the crossword compilers do !

Hmmm! I initially wrote DOLORES but could not see the link with READS. I found that Dalores is an alternative spelling of a girl's name and it contains READS so I changed my entry only to be proved wrong. Very grumpy about it!
