I'd go with BELL-JAR. Chambers Dictionary has it as hyphenated.
I agree bell jar seems the most likely. My Chambers, (10th Ed) , has it as 2 words.
I hope you dont mind me adding my poem that I made up at school (45 years ago)
Beyond the east the belljar, beyond the west the tree
and east and west the science test, that will not let me be
It works in me like madness dear
for test tubes I dont care
for the metal expands, and the water expands and oh the expansion of air.

thank you all - the poem is very interesting I could only find it as 2 words but my quiz says 7 letters and other answers where two words are allowed are shown as eg, 7 4
grasscarp - that poem is touching and imaginative. Where did those forty-five years go?
