Hi Lie-in King - I find this crossword so difficult that I really start from the completed grid and work backwards to try and find out how the answers were got to, hoping that one day I will be able to understand how to do it. So I don't know where to ask to for help - I know it sounds stupid but I by doing it this way just one day I may be able to understand it all.

If you put in all the correspondin g black squares to those given, then you could try to solve any numbered clues as that will give you some more filled in squares at the end of those clues. Also bear in mind the likely grid layout, to help solve length of other clues.

Hi I trust both of you, I will certainly take on board what you have suggested flicrat. I have filled in the symmetrical blanks but I still have no idea where answer 1 starts and how long the answer is. The clues completely throw me, so by seeing the answers I try and work out how it was got to. I am OK with quick and general knowledge clues but cryptic ones are too much - but I want to try and learn.
