25 across. Clue: American taken in by wet left-winger (6). I have: ?A?I?T. If it's PAPIST I'm missing something.

Also, 7 down. Clue: Leave to set climbing rose (3, 2). I have: G?T ?P. I think GOT UP (rose) but can't see how. Help please.

I'd say GET UP (as leave is present tense, not past) - climbing = up
^ or you could be right with GET up, as rose is past tense.
^^ doh, you could be right with GOT up.... (I clearly haven't yet, this morning :-(
7d got up (rose) = go (leave) + tup (put/set backwards/climbing)
