I can see the RY for railway and w for wife but not the rest, and I can see wryish would be a sardonic style. I prefer wryish to wryest- but someoe earlier suggested wryest as the answer

Been answered as wryness
I can see the RY for railway and w for wife but not the rest, and I can see wryish would be a sardonic style. I prefer wryish to wryest- but someoe earlier suggested wryest as the answer
Wryness has 7 letters- the OP suggested only 6 unless it's a typo
Question Author
there is not enough room for wryness
http://www.theanswerb.../Question1043645.html
This poster also says it only has 6 letters.

It's odd because WRYNESS would fit the answer perfectly ( W +RY + NESS)
w= wife
RW= railway
NESS = head (as in headland)
^Sorry- typo. I meant RY for railway
i've put wryest?
I can't see the wordplay though for wryest, ronayne. And I can't see why WRYEST is better than WRYSIH
i totally agree with you factor 30 , but i cant find the word wryish anywhere, whereas puzzle master only gave wryest - no more sense than that
Wryest is definitely correct
Can you see the full wordplay for Wryest, sir.prize?
If the answer is wryest the clue should refer to most sardonic style. It seems to me that the compiler has made a mistake. The clue only leads to wryness - perhaps one needs to fill in wryess(!) and assume n is the missing letter.
Afraid not, factor
Factor30-I think we would all agree that the compiler may have erred and that the wordplay suggests that the answer was intended to be W RY NESS
(ie Wife+railway+head), were it not for the fact that the clue only allows 6 characters, not 7. However, the only possible legitimate word that will fit and bear some relation to the clue, is WRYEST (WryISH does not seem to appear in any dictionaries that I have looked at).
