Odd definition?
Question Author
thanks both of you. Just could'nt see it. I always feel such a fool when they are so obvious(after you know the answer)
don't expect it to make sense, it rarely does
You're welcome giveup

QM I agree, the definition is not quite right
lol em10 true, our local paper is much the same, can't make head or tail of it sometimes even when you have the answers.
Chelle, i consider it a miracle i haven't torn the thing into pieces, stamped on it, and chucked it into the shredder, before calming down.
calm down dear, it's only a crossword.......
I see nothing wrong with the clue. The wordplay suggests an anagram of jade plus a reversal of UV, leading to déjà vu, which means an inaccurate recollection.
those that mock the daily mail crossword should all take a hundred lines.....
Mike - my interpretation of deja vu is different. I wouldn't say it was an inaccurate recollection, I would say it's the feeling of having experienced the same thing before.

the rest of the clue works well.
Déjà vu is a French phrase meaning "already seen", and it refers to the experience of feeling sure that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously.
that's me and em10 in detention then......
Déjà vu is described in Chambers as the illusion of having experienced something before which is actually being experienced for the first time, so to that extent it is a false memory.

Oh God, wish I had'nt asked now, did'nt want to start a spat.
giveup, don't giveup, not a spat, a difference of opinion.
giveup , it's fine just a healthy debate ;-)
im too old for detention, of any kind...
It's the word inaccurately that's dodgy - it suggests that the details of the memory are wrong and not the fact that you're not really 'remembering' it at all. It should be something like: Jade damaged by UV recalled - but not a real recollection.

Also déjà vu is a noun: 'recalled inaccurately' is adjectival.
Absolutely healthy! Cr*p cluers shouldn't be allowed to get away with it :)
