Rather than incur the ire of DevaDolly I am posting again with the agreed title of an EV. In$ my original post I used the "Build a" option and it just decided to ignore my initial request to post as EV etc.

Have more or less finished it with just a hint of a query on 23 & 25d, not sitting well I feel.Have the three but haven't yet tracked the rest.
Managed to get the theme of 986 but having great difficulty finishing the perimeter, nothing seems to fit the PTH is rotting my brain apace, will plod on.

Devadolly, I also prefer the above title, the site just decided to change it! I'll not be using the "build" again. 23d, the ballot box could also be a vase, then check all 4 letters with BRB, 25d, could also be how to describe some beaches without yen!
EV 986, there are some strange words in the perimeter. NW corner has a familiar word, normally applied to tankards, after that you could be thinking about "steal stream", in the SW corner I hope you have enjoyed the Indian Summer and have been (from bottom of 28d to just round the corner+D) I hope that helps to get you sorted. Kayakamina's reference to bath, and Novalis's reference to screw, also water related were pretty heavy, but subtle hints to the person and the discovery!

Hi all
Must agree that this was fairly straightforward, but struggled with last week's (finished that yesterday). Did anyone spot that the entry dates for both EV 986 and EV 987 are the same?
Really busy at the mo - I'm stage manager for our local G&S society and it's show time. We're off to Titipu every evening this week!

Another Good grief DocHH! Are you going back to your days at The Establishment with reference to OR?
Thanks to all the help, I have finished 986, I was right with my assumption of bathers but had omitted to read the preamble properly and once I realised the appropriate letters had to be anagrammed all was resolved.
Probably a good thing we have had an easy run of EV's as it's a busy time off on hols soon...where does one breakfast in New York?

DD, my daughter. who loves a good brunch, and her boyfriend, who was born & raised in NYC, came up with this list of their best/favorite breakfast spots:
Sarabeth's
Antibes Bistro
The Odeon
Spice Market
Nice Matin
I'm assuming Googling can do the rest. I think if there's anything else you want to know about NYC, she'd be happy to provide some opinions!

Thank you drb. It is our first visit to US ever, we are just spending 2 nights in NY before joining a ship. Our hotel is on Times Sq so will check out which are nearest (Himself can't manage more than 15 mins awake without breakfast) as we have been advised to eat brekkie out rather than in the hotels. Some friends are 'taking charge of us' for a full day and have devised an itinerary for us which includes - SI ferry, Brooklyn Bridge, WTC, Grand C Station, pizza at Grimaldi's, coffee & cake in Little Italy and supper at Jojo's! Two other friends are taking us for drinks and walk-about the night before so we will need 2 days at sea to recover!
Was going to pass on this one but then the family sat down to watch X factor tonight and I had already done BigL, so decided to give it a go. Strangely I did know that 24a had the first one, another useless bit of trivia, so nothing too troubling and no wiki needed. Although I appreciate why drb may have needed some help. If the reciprocal was applied I would have no idea.
