Hi x_word_fan - thanks for the link, the clue does read as I suggested & according to the preamble, the clashes should be resolvable with more information gleaned from further solving.

Still, you've plenty of time to sort them out :-)

I am frankly amazed - that was the last clue I had left to solve in the puzzle, but I didn't expect to see it answered here!
The indication of what to do to resolve the clashes is fairly cryptic - I could see what had to be done long before I worked out why (and it made me groan when I did!). But it becomes reasonably apparent in order for one of the 'band' to appear - and the finished puzzle consists entirely of real words.
A good puzzle and deserving of a wider audience!
