I need some support this morning. I "think" I have finished but there are one or two clues I am uncertain about.
1 across. Clue: Some corn needed initially to make bread? (4) I have ?A?N. I have NAAN but can't see why.
3 down. Clue: Jade knight with silver as base (3). I have ??G. I thought NAG. the first letter of of 3 down is the same as the last letter of 1 across.
6 down. Clue: Butcher perhaps bearing a small present (9). I have: E?S?E?D?R. I thought EASTENDER but don't know where butcher comes in unless it's rhyming slang or there's a Butcher in the TV programme of that name which I've never seen. Help please.

thanks bubbletub, I tought you'd be around to sort me out, best wishes, Vimto.
you're very welcome

for the last couple of days it's felt like the crossword solving part of my brain has almost turned off
Greetings ! NAG = JADE (tired old horse) N + Ag (silver)
I Googled it, there is a Butcher family in the soap, but I can't construe the clue.
As for NAAN, I'm baffled
Earn..some corn=ear needed initially=n
An ear of corn needed to make bread needed initially gives "n"
so earn is the answerOne of the families in "Eastenders" is called Butcher!
