I've just looked at the puzzle & it seems there is a mini-theme running through it - to do with numbers perhaps? I can't look properly right now, but -
I think you have a point - good spotting. There is mention of a baker's dozen of clues and there are answers featuring numbers 1- 13. Still haven't the answer but at least have another angle to work on. Many thanks.
It's all to do with numbers! And this one is not about Everton the place but Everton Weekes the cricketer. Do you know the name that he and his two teammates had? That's the answer.
If you need more help, I'll be glad to help
JRB. I know the feeling. I still have one to go: 33d Spenserian attacks intent on capture.
I have *s*i*g*s. It ought to be easy but I just can't work it out!
Mamyalynne and JRB
Many thanks to both of you. That puts it to bed for me.
I find this crossword very entertaining and so different from the cryptic crosswords to which I am in danger of becoming addicted (thanks to Lie-in King and others whose explanations to others' many queries helped me to understand how they work). This one sends me off looking up places, flowers, birds, insects and so on and so on. I find them a fascinating way to while away an hour or two.
