Help please, down to two. 6d Introduced byDostoevsky. Bangs followed: i???t I'm assuming it's Idiot, although I don't understand the reference to bangs - but then I've never read The Idiot. That gives me i?n?s for 11a, Stewart, who discreetly offered a private view; it looks like Innes or Innis, but I can't tie it down.

"A Private View " by Michael Innes (real name John Innes Mackintosh Stewart).
I don't quite get the word play for (The) Idiot but guess it must be right. I have read it but I don;t think that helps!

Thankyou calibax - I've read several of Michael Innes' books, and I found the link between him and Stewart (which I used to know but had forgotten), but I didn't find that title!
Dostoevsky wrote The Idiot, then another was written by John Bangs.
Thanks mac, not aware of John Bangs.
