I think the second word is "about ". For the first word I have _ S _ S
I Should be most grateful for any help as it is my last unsolved clue.

Think is "asks about" - anagram of enquiries

Okay. Without the letters it was all guesswork but now we have teh letters then it is definitely an anagram of Enquiries = ENQUIRES about= ASKS ABOUT
