Can anybody explain the answer to last week's 1 across? "State 6, superstate". The answer given is JAMAICA. I can see A1 is the "super" bit and CA is the "state" but where does "JAM" come from?

Jam =in a state
is answer to 6 - preserve,jam?

i don't think so, boxtops. the 6 clue is "Last word in forecast. Pass" and the answer is NICHE

Thanks to all of you. Stupid me! I was reading the clue for 5 down and couldn't see how NICHE applied! And I already had the answer for 6 down as PREDICAMENT!!!!
