artery?
Yes artery

L-line suggests stuttering so the first letter (R) is repeated
aye tis gleam
To GLEAN means to pick up (information)

Thanks everyone. I had considered GLEAN and ARTERY but I couldn't, and still can't see a reason why they could be correct. I never thought of MONKEY, but Bulliver's explanation makes it clearly the answer.
glean (pick up) = 'le' ('the' in French) + 'an' (article) after (ni)'G'(ht) (mid-night)

Sorry, I made my last post without seeing the explanation by Calibax which certainly convinces me. Still can't see GLEAM or GLEAN.
Question Author
......and again I posted without seeing Bulliver's last. Thanks again to everyone who helped.
