The only thing I'd like to know at the moment though is whether the unclued entries can be found in the BRB. I've not really devoted enough time to this yet.

I watched the Olympics first. A neat idea in this one, allowing some reverse engineering for the more recalcitrant clues. For what it's worth, Chambers is indeed the primary reference for all the clues, and their "suggestions". At least, mine is.
Can't compare with last week's, as I never really got into it.

Yes, this was certainly less challenging than last week's but had that great advantage that once you spotted the endgame, you knew youw were right - with no miserable grid staring. Thank you Lato for a free weekend after last week's struggle.

funnily enough, it took me quite a bit of grid staring before I found what I was looking for, which may explain why I'm no good at wordsearch puzzles.

Albeit with some help, this was as close to the Friday club as I've got yet. A full grid 3 minutes before midnight - but, not being sure of what I was looking for, it took some time before I'd paired off the words and even then wasn't quite finished since I was doing that before falling asleep and have only vaguely heard of some of the definitions. Still, once I put pen to paper it all fell into place.

I liked this because:

1. It was fun
2. It was 10 times easier than last week
3. It's 10 million times easier than the Magpie E-grader I'm trying to solve at present

Yes welcome relief after a struggle on 4201, which after leaving for the week still need to finish off. Olympics nearly over, so like Walterloo will then be back to the E-Grader

Yes, fun enough ... and with a delightful finale. The thought processes went through a few wrong turns before all became clear.

It was nice too that Mrs Alekhine and No. 3 son and friend were part of the denouement.

Everyone says this is easy, but I'm stuck with about 10 clues still to solve and no idea of the theme. And this is after solving every one so far this year. I hope some penny drops soon.

fallster - 4202 is certainly still tricky. I think most of us, me included, have been comparing it to last week's mind mangler which was definitely harder. If it helps I still needed some time on this one to finish the grid fill then I also had stare at the list of unclued entries for some time before something clicked. Keep at it.

An easier romp indeed. Maybe we will go back to 4201, which didn't really engage our interest much, despite having virtually completed the grid.

Grandchildren staying, so less time to spend. Have finally finished grid, but not getting the hint from the 17 letters, as I have two 'i's together, near to the start, and there is one I haven't quite got. I'm feeling very thick as I still have no idea what I am looking for. I finally finished last week's clues, but am going to write it out again as I need to check all the knight's moves, but I might be there or thereabouts.
