Yup, I flew home on Saturday and reacquainted myself with this old foe.

24 across - Go off after British private? Nonsense! (8) ?O?M?R?T
13 down - Vessel for buster man, possibly (9) ?U?M?R?N? It looks like submarine, but why? I spent ages on an anagram of buster man.

Damn. Got tommyrot just as I clicked "submit".
Tommy rot
misprint, should be busier perhaps?

Good call bibblebub. Definitely says "buster" but busier makes infinitely more sesne.
Buster Crabb was a submarine commander but I think the 'busier' option looks good.
Question Author
Didn't he drown in suspicious circumstances in his role as a diver?

Great win yesterday BTW. Good to see Arbroath make it but the mightly Shire, my local team, just missed out.
You're right about Buster Crabb - just googled and discovered that the official documents about his death will be released in 2057, if I'm around then, there will be an official enquiry into how I managed it!
Good result for the Jags yesterday (eventually) and a fair chance we'll get Rangers in the semis, or even better, in the final. Regardless of their circumstances the Gers fans are turning out, so a few welcome quid to reduce the Firhill debt. Things are looking up!

We have to beat Queen of the South first, and that causes a huge dilemma in the Duncer household as Mrs D's dad is a big Queen's fan. I don't know if I'll invite him along to this one. ;-)
I've got a pal in Lockerbie who is a fanatical QoS fan, so to him and you da-in-law I say "C'mon the Doonhamers" (hope they get gubbed) - ok, so I'm two-faced!

To be honest I think a (small) part of me would be pleased for him. He was delighted the year they won it at Clyde against Brechin City, and I cheered too. I would also like to see Rangers at Hampden too.
