I'm attempting my first ever 'letters latent' puzzle and finding it tough. A little kick-start might help.
10 A. Sending up agent in grotesque (11) ???p?????
15 D. Australian songster: money offer inveigles one with hits coming up (11) ??s?l????

The omission of letters means I can't do my usual thing of writing lists, trying to fit in letters etc.

Thanks, I'll do some juggling (of letters) now.
Question Author
I'm still slogging away - would like to check an answer (to see if I'm totally wrong)
6 A. Hominid Britsh Museum located in hospital? (6)
The answer I'm thinking of is Subman - it has bm/British museum inside san/hospital - but I can't see how the 'u' fits in. Any advicegrfully received.
Since the U is extra, isn't it supposed to not fit into the wordplay?
Question Author
The preamble says 'Definitions in the clues refer to the full, unmutilated answer...' I took this to mean that I needed to answer the clue, then remove a letter. That's what happened with 15 D, that you kindly helped with.
Yes, but the wordplay refers to the mutilated answer. So, S(BM)AN is the wordplay, sUbman is the definition.
Question Author
Aah, thanks - it's painfully obvious that I've never done one of these before!
One of the letters should be omitted before entering the answer. U is the extra letter.
Read the last line of instruction to see what to do with the omitted letters.

10A. The definition is "sending" and it's an anagram with RR, R being the omitted letter.
Question Author
Hankir, thanks. I'll have another stab at 10 Across.
10A it's an anagram of 'up agent in' + 'rr' (the missing letters) which gives 'enrapturing', the definition being 'sending' - omit the r's when entering in the diagram.
The quotation is from Samuel Johnson
Question Author
Thanks - I gave myself a break from this, but I'll go back with renewed enthusiasm.
Question Author
I've persevered with this. I have 3 clues left to solve - I know the missing letters, I know the quote. I'm scared I've gone wrong and that's why I can't finish this off. Any advice re this one would be terrific.

2 D. Interaction with environment,idea nutter endlessly developed (12)
i??a??dnes ('s' is the missing letter, 3 of them - and I'm sure the word ends ...ness). Thanks for any enlightenment!
Stuck in the top left. To be precise, 1, 12, 21A and 2,3,5,18D.
Any HINTS gratefully accepted.
Quotation remains a mystery - which edition of ODQ did the successful folks use?
Situatedness
Question Author
I don't have the ODQ, but I had sufficient letters to track it down.
I'm useless at giving clues, but I'll see if I can come up with anything.
Question Author
Thanks, slaney - a great help (and a great relief to know that I hadn't gone wrong).
Question Author
Mathsman, re 1 A - the 'versatile sportsperson' competes in more than one event/discipline. 18 D - guitarists are often found doing this. Hope this is of some help! The assistance I got with two or three answers was appreciated, but I enjoyed battling with the others.
Thanks folks esp nac
some hints as requested......
1a recent Olympic eventer (gold winner though sounds bronze!)
12a like new, man
21a end of the line (for across clues)
3d partly leased apartments
5d like Wyman (or any of the Stones nowadays!)
18d more Wyman than Watts
Dear edn17, You must be a crossword compiler in your own right!
